Hello Mr. Launius — Are you aware of any materials (books, journal articles, news articles, etc) that specifically researched on the success of the Discovery shuttle? Thanks!

There is not much specifically on Discovery. Dennis Jenkins did this book, “Return-To-Flight Space Shuttle Discovery.” North Branch, MN: Specialty Press, 2006. This is a photo scrapbook of the STS-114 mission. There is also this one:

Adamcik, Robert A. “Voyages of Discovery: The Missions of the Space Shuttle Discovery.” Burlington, Canada: Apogee Prime, 2010. “Voyages of Discovery is a straight forward narrative history of the most storied orbiter in the Space Shuttle fleet. Written with a minimum of technical jargon, it puts the reader on Discovery’s flight deck during some of the most important missions of the Space Shuttle era from satellite retrieval, to deployment of the Hubble Space Telescope, to construction of the International Space Station, and the Return to Flight after two tragic losses.”

Good luck with your research. Roger
