Map of Europe: 1000 CE to the Present

This might interest some folks. This is an video map of the political geography of Europe since 1000 CE. It is fascinating to watch the rise and fall and evolution of various states. The only challenge is that there is no timeline that goes with the video so you don’t necessarily have a good sense of exactly when something is taking place. Regardless, this is a terrific animation. Enjoy.

Wow! But how could somebody make that and not include a timeline? A necessity.

I object to your use of CE instead of the usual AD to refer to the time period. Oh, but we don’t want to offend non-christians by referring to the overwhelmingly dominant religion of western culture. So, how would one answer when asked what the defining event of the “common era” is?

Mr. Watson, I totally agree with you and I refuse to use the new terms which imply no beginning nor end. (But I might consider BZ and AZ where Z denotes zero.)
